Spelinspektionen, the Swedish gambling regulator, has announced that its Spelpaus.se self-exclusion service has now hit over 20,000 registrations.
The programme enables users to block themselves from accessing services related to online gambling and opt out of any marketing campaigns that advertise such activities.
Spelpaus.se also covers in-person betting at approved stores, bingo facilities, on gambling machines and at all land-based Casino Cosmopol land-based casinos.
The service only applies to those operators that have been granted a licence from Spelinspektionen. So, far, the Swedish gambling regulator has awarded licences to 69companies. One of Spelinspektionen’s conditions to grant such a licence is for the operators to ensure that they are integrated with the self-exclusion service.
The gambling regulator, however, has been forced to issue several reminders to its licencees about this requirement after discovering several failures during the first month of full regulation in January this year.
