AGA President and CEO Geoff Freeman released the following statement following Sunday night’s Las Vegas shooting near the Las Vegas Strip:

“The American Gaming Association and our Global Gaming Expo (G2E) partner, Reed Exhibitions, are closely monitoring the horrific events that took place in Las Vegas earlier this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with those that were affected and with the people of Las Vegas and Nevada.

G2E annually welcomes 26,000 visitors and is scheduled to open, as planned, today with the G2E conference program, while exhibitor move-in continues for the show to open tomorrow. The AGA and Reed Exhibitions will be in constant contact with local and national law enforcement and our host, Las Vegas Sands. We will closely monitor the situation and safety remains our priority.

The gaming industry is a tight-knit community and Las Vegas is the beating heart of our operations. The AGA and Reed Exhibitions will offer our full assistance as the city recovers, and we will strive to honor the victims of this tragic event.”

Police in Las Vegas are now investigating the case of a gunman who opened fire at a country music festival near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on Sunday night. According to reports, 50 people were killed while approximately 406 others were taken to area hospitals following the shooting. Police identified the shooting man as Stephen Craig Paddock, 64, from Mesquite, Nevada. According to investigators, Paddock opened fire on a crowd of over 22,000 concert-goers from the hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel at about 10:08 p.m.

The tragic Las Vegas shooting took place one day before the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Las Vegas, which is the three-day international gaming trade show and conference. The event is organized by the American Gaming Association (AGA) and Reed Exhibitions.  It is to start on Oct. 3 and finish on Oct. 5 at the Sands Expo.
