Last Wednesday, Canadian customers of Betfair received e-mails stating that betting exchange will no longer be available to residents of Canada beginning on January 14.
From this date on, fixed odds sportsbook bets, all gaming products and exchange bets will not be available to Canadian players.
Betfair did not explain their decision, but it is believed that it is the result of the company’s planned merger with Paddy Power, which has already withdrew its services from Canadian market in 2011.
Due to the fact that Betfair leaves Canadian market, Canadian players will be also banned from accessising the site while being outside their country. All open sportsbook bets settled after January 14 will remain in place. Also exchange bets will stay in place until January 14.The Canadian residents have been advised to withdraw their account balances before Betfair leaves Canadian market and to ensure you manage any positions they have open in advance of this date.
It is believed that one of the major reasons for Betfair leaving Canada is the olitical situation in the country, namely the gambling regulation in the state. Last year, a nationnwide Canadian sports-betting bill did not leave the nation’s senate and a new and improved bill was getting approval for implementation.
Betfair was founded in 1999. The company pioneered the first successful Betting Exchange. Currently they deliver a full range of sports betting and gaming products to more than 950,000 customers. Betfair is one of the biggest online betting and gaming operators in the UK market. The company is popular worldwide, with customers in more than 100 countries.
